Richard J. Bowles, MD, provides orthopedic care to patients in our McDonough and Stockbridge locations. His practice includes general orthopedics with a specialization in sports medicine. He has special interests in ACL reconstruction and complex knee surgery (including multiligamentous reconstruction and cartilage salvage/knee preservation) and advanced arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee.

Dr. Bowles graduated with honors from the University of Louisville and continued his education at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky, after a career in engineering and business. After completing a general surgery internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital) in Boston, Dr. Bowles completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Colorado in Denver. He completed his sports medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. He is a team physician for the US Ski & Snowboard Team.

Tobias von Bergen, MD is a board certified orthopedic surgeon, fellowship trained in hand and upper extremity surgery. Dr. von Bergen’s practice includes wrist, elbow, and shoulder arthroscopy and reconstruction, comprehensive care of adult and pediatric upper extremity injuries and ailments, fracture care, as well as work injuries. He has a special interest in advanced care for lost limbs, including targeted muscle reinnervation, regenerative peripheral nerve surgery and neuroma management.

Félix Rodríguez-del Río, M.D., is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon in the subspecialty of foot and ankle surgery. Dr. Rodriguez-del Rio’s practice includes comprehensive treatment options for foot and ankle conditions, including foot and ankle arthroscopy, reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, total ankle replacement, deformities of the foot, neuropathy, and charcot foot. Dr. Rodriguez-del Rio also treats general orthopedic conditions, including sports injuries, fractures and dislocations, and workers’ compensation injuries.
Areas of interest include sports orthopedics, diabetic foot, pediatric general orthopedics, fracture care, and workers’ compensation. Dr. Rodriguez-del Rio is fluent in Spanish and welcomes Spanish-speaking patients.

Dr. Rodríguez-del Río has taken an active role in the community. Dr. Rodriguez-del Rio served as Foot and Ankle Consultant for the Puerto Rico Volleyball Olympic Team. During his tenure as President of the Orthopaedic State Society, he organized public service clinics in Puerto Rico for the underserved communities and contributed to public service weekly radio programs to orient and assist underserved and aging communities. He continues to take an active role in the medical community, serving as a medical consultant for ACUMED International Corporation.

Dr. William J. Lichtenfeld, M.D., is a physiatrist who is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He holds a subspecialty in main management. He is an American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Fellow. Dr. Lichtenfeld provides nonsurgical orthopaedic care to patients utilizing his training in nonsurgical management of musculoskeletal, neuromuscular and sports-related injuries. His practice includes nonsurgical orthopaedic medicine, interventional spinal injections, electrodiagnostic medicine, sports medicine and physical medicine. Todd A. Schmidt, M.D., is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Fellow. Dr. Schmidt is fellowship trained in both shoulder surgery and sports medicine. His practice includes orthopaedic surgery with a special interest in sports medicine, shoulder, hip and knee disorders and arthritic joint reconstruction He is an innovator in the use of computer-assisted surgery in joint replacement and in the evaluation of hip disorders, and the use of arthroscopy to treat them. Prior to his founding role in OrthoAtlanta, Dr. Schmidt held leadership positions on the Board of Directors and Finance Committee for the Hughston Clinic. He also has served as the Board Chair and Finance Chair at OrthoAtlanta.

Dr. Schmidt is active in community athletic events, having served as a physician for the USA Olympic Sports Medicine Association and the Special Olympics. He also has served as the Medical Director for the LPGA, Chick-fil-A Charity Golf Championship and both the Peach Bowl and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in multiple years. Dr. Schmidt also served as an associate team physician for the Atlanta Falcons. In addition, he continues his relationship as team physician for Union Grove High School and Strong Rock Christian School. Dr. Schmidt is a past Chief of Medical Staff at Piedmont Henry Hospital. He is on the board of the Georgia Orthopedic Society, and is a past president. He is also on the Board of Counselors of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and serves on the governing board of Piedmont Henry Hospital.
