Ephrem O Olweny, MD

Ephrem Olweny, M.D. is a fellowship-trained urologist who specializes in the medical and surgical management of complex urinary stone disease, as well as in minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of malignant and benign diseases of the upper urinary tract and prostate. His clinical scope also encompasses general urology. He employs the full spectrum of minimally invasive surgical techniques, as well as open surgery where necessary, to yield the most optimized patient outcomes. His treatment philosophy entails partnering with the patient to best comprehend the full burden of their urologic disease, so as to provide the highest level of tailored, evidence-based, state-of-the-art care.
Dr. Olweny earned his medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, followed by a residency in Urology at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in Endourology & Minimally Invasive Urology and at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He serves as the Medical Director of Urology at Hackensack Health & Wellness Center in Clifton, NJ. He joined HackensackUMC from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, where he served as Associate Professor of Urology, Chief of Endourology and Director of Urology at Rush Oak Park hospital.
Dr. Olweny has co-authored more than 90 peer-reviewed articles and invited reviews / book chapters. He has presented his research and served as faculty at multiple international, national and regional conferences. His current research is centered around understanding and optimizing patient reported outcomes after minimally invasive surgery, as well as on surgical innovation and evaluation.
