Dr. Chris Cotterill was born and raised in a small town in southwestern Kentucky near the Tennessee border and Fort Campbell Army Base. A Kentucky Governor's Scholar and Commonwealth Diploma graduate, he attended the University of Kentucky, earning a B.S. in Chemistry with a Mathematics minor, followed by a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and a Pediatric Dentistry residency from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in 2005. He opened a solo pediatric dental practice in Georgetown, KY, and became a Board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry in 2006.
In 2009, Dr. Cotterill joined Saudi ARAMCO Medical Services in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, where he practiced pediatric dentistry and met his wife, Christine. In 2012, he transitioned to academia at East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine, where he helped develop the pediatric curriculum, launched the hospital component of the pediatric dental practice, served as the first Director of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry, and later as Director of the residency program. He was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon in 2017 and promoted to Associate Clinical Professor.
After returning to private practice in the Carolinas, Dr. Cotterill joined the University of New England College of Dental Medicine in 2023. In 2025, he accepted an appointment as Associate Clinical Professor and Predoctoral Director in Pediatric Dentistry at the Medical University of South Carolina James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine. He and Christine are now settled in Charleston, where he looks forward to beginning his new role on July 21, 2025.
